NEWS

THIS WEEK's UPDATES

Year 4 Cake Sale
Thank you to everyone who donated and purchased cakes for the Year 4 cake sale.  The class raised a total of £101.26 which is a fantastic achievement, well done!

Liddington Trip – Year 5
Please can parents make sure that all payments for the above trip are now up to date.
If you are unable to make any outstanding payments due to financial difficulties please contact the office to speak to Jenny Grant in confidence.

Valentines Disco Thursday 9th February
Reminder - the school Valentines disco will be held after school on the last day of term (9th February) -  three sessions for the different age groups (Year R+1 and 2, Yrs 3and 4,Yrs 5 and 6). Cost for entrance remains at £1 per child. The letter with a reply slip went out last week via parentmail; a copy can be obtained from the school office.

Gardening Club
The gardening club started this week and the children have been planting bulbs outside.  As the ground is very muddy it would be helpful if the children could bring in either an old pair of tracksuit bottoms and wellies / shoes or trainers on the day they attend the club to avoid ruining their school shoes and bringing mud into the school.

Packed Lunches
Please could you make sure that if you provide a packed lunch for your child that they have a drink and a spoon for yogurt or desert type foods. There are an increasing number of children ‘borrowing’ spoons from the caterer which are then being mislaid or causing a lack of cutlery for the school dinner children.

Parking
Once again, please can I remind everyone about the way they park and move vehicles about in Salisbury Road. There have been a number of incidents or near misses recently and the safety of our pupils and their toddler siblings is being put at risk. Thank you for your co operation.

End of the school day
We have had a number of children this term who have not been collected from school on time at 3.10pm. The school office closes at 3.30pm and teachers and teaching assistants are not always able to supervise for late collection due to meetings, clubs and other commitments. In future, unless there is an emergency situation, children will not be able to remain in the office after 3.30pm and we will ask Chill Out to supervise them for which a charge may be made.

Sporting Success
Many congratulations to Aydin Djemal, a former pupil of Cuddington, who was selected for the squad representing Great Britain at the Winter Youth Olympics, held last week in Innsbruck. There were 24 athletes in the squad and Aydin was one of two boys taking part in the Short Track Speed Skating events. He finished outside of the medals for the individual events but came second in the mixed team relay event, returning home with a silver medal. During his time at Cuddington, Aydin represented the school in many sports events and began speed skating whilst here at primary school. He has worked hard to get to this point and we are proud of his achievement. We wish him every success for the future.

Inset Days
Don’t forget that we have an inset day either side of the half term holiday. Therefore there is no school for pupils on Friday 10 and Monday 20 February.

PSA Quiz Evening
There will be a quiz evening on Saturday 17th March for parents / friends (adults only).
A ticket price of £8.00 will include entry to the quiz and a fish and chip supper. There can be a maximum of 8 people in a team.  Please support the PSA by coming along to what in the past has always been a successful and fun evening.
Tickets will be available through the PSA shortly but in the meantime please make a note of the date in your diary.

Hi de Hi Campers!
The PSA are organising a family camping weekend on the school field on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 June. There has been a lot of interest so far and it promises to be a fun weekend. More details and information will be made available in the coming weeks. Please keep the date free in your diary

PREVIOUS NEWS THAT MIGHT STILL BE OF INTEREST

Special Needs Resource Centre

We are able to inform you that County Council have agreed that the proposed Special Needs Resource Centre for ASD pupils in the NE Surrey Area will be built at Cuddington Community Primary School. It is hoped that the building work will commence late February and should be completed by July/August. The Governors and I will be working with the project management company to ensure that the building work does not impact upon the learning and the access to facilities on the site for the pupils during the Spring and Summer Terms. We will also be recruiting new staff and training current staff in order to prepare for September. It is also proposed that there will be information sessions for parents before the centre opens in the Autumn Term. We are looking forward to the opportunity to develop the centre for the benefit of all pupils and welcome your support with this exciting development for the school community. If you have any questions with regard to the centre, please contact myself or the Governing Body via the school office.

Bourne Hall Museum Club – 2012 Events
The club is for children aged 8+ who are interested in history. More information can be obtained from

REMINDERS
PLEASE REMEMBER that Cuddington is a nut free school. This is due to the number of pupils in school with nut allergies and the high level of risk for their health if they come into contact with nuts and nut related products. Therefore, please ensure that any food coming into school does not contain nuts. This includes packed lunches, birthday treats etc. Any parents making cakes or biscuits for cake sales and birthdays must let us know if nuts are included so that we can ensure there are alternative options available. Thank you for your co operation
PE Kit
As the field / playground is often wet or muddy at this time of year please can children have in school  a pair of trainers , a plain sweatshirt and tracksuit bottoms for outside PE. It is still necessary for them to have in school their plimsolls and their PE Kit for indoor PE.
Illness
There are a number of different illnesses affecting children throughout the school at the moment. Please be vigilant and look for signs of a raised temperature, spots or sickness. If you have any concerns please contact your GP. Please remember that anyone who has sickness or diarrhoea because of illness must not come into school for at least 24 hours and often with young children it is wise to wait for 48 hours to make sure they fully recovered. Please make sure that especially at this time of year, anyone needing an inhaler for asthma should have one available in school at all times.
Warm clothing
Please can you make sure your child comes to school with a warm coat, gloves and a hat because it can be very cold in the playground at break and lunchtimes.
Headlice
We are aware that there are some cases of headlice in school. The best approach is for every parent to check their child each week and then to treat as soon as something is spotted. A good website to access for further information is www.onceaweektakeapeek.com
Cash payments to the school office
The school office does not hold a very large float and so it is sometimes difficult to provide change for cash payments. Therefore could we ask that any cash payments made are for the correct money and are given in an envelope clearly marked with the child’s name, class and what the money is for. Many thanks
Playground
Please do not allow your child to ride their scooter / bike in the playground before or after school. Also children should not be climbing on the school playground equipment.
Helping in School
Don’t forget that anyone helping regularly in school must have an up to date CRB check in place.  Forms are available online. Enquire at the school office for further details.

With best wishes
