The Curriculum
The school is organised into seven classes; from Reception to Year
6, with a maximum class size of thirty and is well resourced both indoors
and outdoors. The curriculum is taught either as separate subjects (e.g.
literacy, numeracy, PE and music) or as part of integrated studies using
a variety of whole class, group or individual teaching methods. In addition
to the class teachers, teaching assistants are employed to work in each
year group and with children with special needs.
Early Years Education
On entry into school all pupils work towards the Early Learning Goals
within the Foundation Stage Curriculum.The Reception curriculum includes
a wide range of practical activities as young children learn effectively
through well planned and structured play. Work is undertaken in the
following areas:
- personal, social and emotional development
- communication, language and literacy
- mathematical development
- knowledge and understanding of the world
- physical development
- creative development
National Curriculum
We teach the three core subjects of the National Curriculum:
- Literacy
- Numeracy
- Science
And the Foundation subjects:
Additional Subjects:
Religious
Education, French, Personal and Social Education, Safety Education,
Health Education and Sex Education.
- It is a parent’s statutory right that they may withdraw their
child from Religious Education and Collective Worship
- It is also a parent’s statutory right that they may withdraw
their child from Sex Education and if you intend to do so, please
contact the Headteacher. Parents are invited to see the materials
used in the Sex Education lessons before they are shown to children.
